What is an Implant-Retained Denture?

Model of implant supported denture

An implant-retained denture is a type of dental prosthetic than can be used to replace an entire row of missing teeth, but rather than using metal clasps or natural suction to stay in place, it relies on multiple dental implants placed directly into the jawbone. The denture itself can then be fitted onto these implants, helping them stay in place much better that the usual methods.

In order to get one, a patient must first schedule a consultation here at Brand New Smile Dental Implant Centers. During this appointment, Dr. Tim Stirneman will thoroughly examine the mouth and determine whether or a not a patient is a good candidate for dental implants. If they are, our team can perform the placement procedure. Once a patient has healed (which takes about 3-6 months), they will return to our office to receive their denture.

Implant-Retained Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures

While traditional dentures still provide an excellent solution to missing teeth, more and more dentist and patients are choosing implant-retained dentures because they offer a multitude of additional benefits:

How Much Do Implant-Retained Dentures Cost?

First and foremost, there is no “set” cost for implant-retained dentures, as every patient’s process will be personalized to meet their particular needs. Factors like how many teeth need to be replaced and the state of a person’s jawbone can directly impact the cost of getting this treatment. On average, a single dental implant can cost anywhere from $2,500-$5,000, so that will be multiplied depending on how many a patient needs.

While the overall cost might be greater than a traditional denture, it typically ends up being the better financial decision over time. Why? Not only are dental implants expected to last for about 30 years (while regular dentures only last 5-7), but they also prevent the bone degeneration that is common after tooth loss. This not only improves the overall look of the face, but it can also help a patient avoid numerous dental problems and additional treatment in the future.

Plus, our practice is happy to accept dental insurance as well as offer flexible financing, so in the end, we’ll make sure finances are never a barrier to getting your smile back.
